The Goals:

To define the infocommunications technology competencies, and the underlying performance indicators needed to support the job role performance of a teacher.
To come up with a National ICT Competency Standard for Teachers (NICS-Teachers) that consolidated the various references used by different interest groups, and align them to the DepEd drafted National Competency Based Teacher Standard (NCBTS).
To bring about the collective ownership of all the stakeholders by contributing to the formulation, advocacy, localization, and training implementation.

The domain includes competencies related to social, ethical, legal and human issues, and community linkage.

The domain includes competencies related to the use of technology in the following components of an instruction process: 1) planning and designing effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology; 2) implementing, facilitating and monitoring teaching and learning strategies that integrate a range of information and communication technologies to promote and enhance student learning; and 3) assessing and evaluating student learning and performances.

The NICS Teachers Project

Welcome to this on-line space dedicated to the formulation of the National Infocommunications Technology Competency for Teachers -NICS Teachers.

A collaborative effort organized by CICT-HCDG together with DepEd and some interest groups on teachers' trainings. It is sponsored by Intel.

The Project Goals:

To define the infocommunications technology competencies, and the underlying performance indicators needed to support the job role performance of a teacher.
To come up with a National ICT Compentecy Standard for Teachers (NICS-Teachers) that consolidated the various references used by different interest groups, and align them to the DepEd drafted National Competency Based Teacher Standard (NCBTS).
To bring about the collective ownership of all the stakeholders by contributing to the formulation, advocacy, localization, and training implementation.

The Work Flow:

Collection and review of the different ICT competency standards for teachers adopted by different groups. The output: consolidated report on ICT Competencies, and identification of best practice references.
Focus Group Discussion with representative stakeholders on the working framework and deliverables of the NICS Teacher Project. The output: identified best practice references, NCBTS domain, draft presentation components.
Stakeholders Workshop to draft the NICS-Teachers The output: NICS-Teacher documents for presentation and review by different interest groups and decision makers.
CICT-HCDG presentation of the final draft to decision makers for approval

A validation workshop will be conducted on August 30, 2006 at CICT, CP Garcia Avenue, UP Diliman, Quezon City

The validated draft will be initially presented on September 6-7 2006 at the National ICT Congress for Basic Education in Cebu City.The NICS Teacher identify the cluster of ICT skills that support the National Competency- based Teacher Standard being developed by DepEd. The NCBTS defines the components of knowledge and skills for the teacher's job role.
